This Weekend: Plug Into The Year's Biggest Jewish Youth Service Event with J-Serve

It’s an exciting weekend everyone – this Sunday, April 22, is Earth Day (more on that tomorrow) and also J-Serve: The National Day of Jewish Youth Service!

For the last seven years, J-Serve (which is the Jewish counterpart to Global Youth Service Day, also running this weekend) has provided “teens with the opportunity to fulfill the Jewish values of gemilut chasidim, acts of loving kindness, tzedakah, just and charitable giving, and tikkum olam, the responsibility to repair the world.” Last year more than 10,000 teens across the world participated in service projects on the same day, helping their individual communities while joining up with a global network of teens rockin’ Jewish service.

This year is shaping up to be just as fantastic. In Houston, teens will come together to help alleviate the drought that’s hit Texas hard in the last several years. In Miami they’ll be painting, making benches and working with children at a local garden. In Austin, they’ll serve at the Ronald McDonald house. And in the Bay Area they’ll work on shore restoration, volunteer at a food bank and spend the day with special needs kids. And that’s just a sampling: with multiple service activities going on simultaneously in many cities, finding a meaningful way to plug into J-Serve is easy!
