NIF strengthens organizations and leaders that work to achieve equality for all the citizens of the state; realize the civil and human rights of all, including Palestinian citizens of Israel; recognize and reinforce the essential pluralism of Israeli society; and empower groups on the economic margins of Israeli society.
NIF offers two fellowship programs: (1) NIF/SHATIL Social Justice Fellows spend an academic year interning 32 hours per week at a social change organization in Israel, and participating in enrichment programs to build their capacity as agents for social change. The Fellowship seeks college graduates who are fluent in Hebrew or Arabic, and are committed to being active in social justice causes as alumni. (2) NIF – Ma’ase Olam Fellows (in partnership with Mercaz Ma’ase) will spend 10 months living communally alongside an Israeli peer cohort, engaging in work with an Israeli social change organization, learning about Israel and the challenges it faces, and acquiring tools for social change.
