August is “Back to School” month at Repair the World. Check back all month long for posts about inspiring education organizations, amazing educators, and ways to get your education on – whether you’re a student or not!

It’s time to sharpen those pencils, decorate your locker, and get back into the swing of school! But in between the crush of classes, homework, and after school clubs, going back to school is also the perfect time for service.

Each year, millions of students do not have the resources they need to start the school year with notebooks, backpacks, pens, calculators and other basic school supplies. This year, help all kids head back to school on the right foot. Here are a few ways to get involved and make a difference:

  • The Pencil Promise: Need a new backpack? Buy a snazzy-looking one from The Pencil Promise, and they will deliver a backpack filled with school supplies to a student in need.
  • Staples for Students: Staples and the Boys & Girls Club are teaming up this year to supply underserved kids with school supplies. Get involved by making a donation at the checkout counter of any Staples through September 28, “like” Staples for Students on Facebook (Staples will donate $1 for every share), or drop of school supplies at any participating Staples through Aug 17.
  • Veahavta: This Toronto-based Jewish humanitarian organization is packing “Kinder Kits” that include a backpack, pens, erasers, crayons, rulers and other important supplies for students in Canada and around the world.
  • Crayons to Calculators: Live in Colorado? Help C2C, a school supply drive, ensure that local students head back to school with all the tools they need to succeed.
