Service That Matters

Service can be meaningful work but how do we find meaning? Learning and reflection help to ground us.

Jewish service-learning integrates direct service, Jewish wisdom, contextual learning and reflection. When planning a service project, pre and post learning allow for deeper engagement with the issue at hand. Framing with localized issue area education, coupled with Jewish values to deepen meaning on a personal level, can create a more impactful experience for the participant and build connection. Reflection after service also has the power to deepen the experience and encourage an ongoing relationship to service. To enhance service-learning components of your work, consider this guide to answer questions from initial planning of a program through the reflection that takes place after.
