August is “Back to School” month at Repair the World. Check back all month long for posts about inspiring education organizations, amazing educators, and ways to get your education on – whether you’re a student or not!

Kickstarter, Indiegogo and other crowdsource funding websites have changed the way we give. Back in the day, if you were an artist, an educator, or a do-gooder and you wanted to raise money for a project, you could apply for a grant, ask your family, or wish really hard for a wealthy benefactor to magically appear.

Today, through the power of the Internet, viral marketing, and the power of friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend networks, you can make a video, put up a page asking for support and, more often than not, get the support you need through a crowdsourced campaign.

In honor of Back to School month here at Repair the World, we decided to dig up some worthy education-focused campaigns over at Kickstarter and Indiegogo and broadcast them to the world. We don’t know the people involved in these projects personally, but we think they’re pretty great anyway. We hope you do too!

The Sonnet Man This Kickstarter campaign will fund an artist named Devon Glover aka “The Sonnet Man,” who introduces students to Shakespeare’s sonnets through hip-hop. Goal: $15,000 / Deadline: August 16

Break Free: This Kickstarter campaign works to build intimate classroom settings to provide inspiring learning environments for students through the medium of break dancing and other forms of cultural and artistic expression. Goal: $25,000 / Deadline: August 27

Educational Posters: This Kickstarter campaign will go to the creation and distribution of creative and educational posters for underfunded preschool and kindergarten classes. (They’re super cute!) Goal: $775 / Deadline: August 23

School Uniforms: This Indiegogo campaign will provide school uniforms to students in Cambodia. Goal: $5,320 / Deadline: August 11

Education in Afganistan: This Indiegogo campaign will work to fight illiteracy and promote education in Afghanistan. Goal: $10,000 / Deadline: September 2

Are you feeling in the mood to give? Have a tiny bit of pocket change – or more! – to spare? Check out these inspiring education fundraising campaigns – but hurry, the deadlines are approaching quickly!
