By now you’ve likely heard about the guy from Ohio who is successfully – and we mean very successfully – crowd-funding the creation of his potato salad on Kickstarter. If not, check it out.

Now we like a good, flavorful side dish as much as anyone. But we also think there many worthy causes out there that deserve as much hype and support as some dude’s lunch! Like LeVar Burton’s Kickstarter initiative to bring back Reading Rainbow. (But at over $5 million, he already more than met his goal!)

This month, in our ongoing crowdsource funding series, we scouted some great, summer-friendly projects that are currently campaigning for support. We don’t know the people involved in these projects personally, but we think the work they are doing is awesome. We hope you do too!

Street Soccer in LA Supporting this Indiegogo campaign means supporting Street Soccer LA, an initiative working to end youth homelessness through sports and empowerment.

Jersey City Bike Racks Thanks to this Ioby campaign, Sustainable Jersey City, BikeJC, and Jersey City Art School are raising money to install bike racks around the city. Help them make beautiful, bike-friendly streets a reality.

Geeks Doing Good This Indiegogo initiative is helping Worldbuilders raise money for Heifer International. They’ve already raised well beyond their goal, but when the cause is helping end hunger and empower communities, why stop giving?

City Chicken Project This Crowdrise campaign supports Just Food’s initiative to provide training, coops, and hens to community and school gardens across NYC. The project increases access to healthy food in underserved communities.
