Part-Time Manhattan Teen Program Associate, Summer 2023

Repair is building a national Jewish service movement that mobilizes young adults to serve in their communities, catalyzes service through deep partnerships within Jewish communal organizations, and inspires people to take action through time-bound thematic national service campaigns, digital engagement, and service. Our mission provides volunteers with an increased connection to meaningful service and learning as a Jewish value, builds capacity for nonprofit partners to meet their missions, and deepens connections across lines of difference.
Program Overview: Repair the World New York
Over one-third of Repair the World NY’s volunteer engagement involves families with children and teens.
Entering its fourth summer, the Repair the World NY Summer Teen Service Corps engages rising 9th-12th graders in local service and social justice learning through a Jewish values lens. In the three day per week program (Tues-Thurs) teens volunteer at various service sites throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn in the mornings and gather for learning and additional community building in the afternoons.
Repair the World is seeking a Part-Time Manhattan Teen Program Associate for the upcoming Summer Teen Service Corps. This position begins as soon as April 17, 2023, and ends on August 11, 2023. This position is part-time between 20-25 hr. / per week.
The Part-Time Manhattan Teen Program Associate’s responsibilities will include the following:
- Preparation for the Summer Teen Service Corps as well as leading the Manhattan cohort during the summer program, which runs from June 29 – August 10 | Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays | 9:00 AM-3:00 PM.
- Work under Repair the World NY Program Director and in partnership with Repair the World NY’s Year-Round Teen Program Senior Associate.
- Management of timely and relevant communication with the participants, support teens at local service sites, assist in maintaining positive relationships between service partners and teens, and implement the Teen Service Corps curriculum.
The successful candidate will be a flexible self-starter who excels at building relationships with teens; has a proven ability to manage and facilitate service learning; is skilled at teaching and building community and is excited about leading innovative programming to engage teens in meaningful ways and to respond to the needs of marginalized and vulnerable neighbors.
- Coordinate preparations for the Summer Teen Service Corps
- Conduct site visits at the Manhattan service partners prior to the summer program.
- In partnership with NY’s Year-Round Teen Program Senior Associate and under guidance from the NY Program Director, coordinate service site placements, and confirm field trips and guest speakers as part of the curriculum.
- In partnership with NY’s Year-Round Teen Program Senior Associate and under guidance from the NY Program Director, revise and adjust educational curriculum.
- Coordinate and facilitate the Manhattan teen cohort program:
- Hold relationships with teens and parents.
- Manage and ensure teens’ attendance and meaningful engagement at morning service and afternoon learning.
- Visit service sites to ensure COVID protocols are being enforced and that service opportunities are strong matches for teen volunteers.
- Lead Manhattan cohort in learning and community building sessions
- Contribute to Repair the World NY’s growing teen work by maintaining positive and meaningful relationships with service sites.
Required Experience & Skills
- Excellent facilitator of educational programming and service learning for teens
- Direct youth management experience
- Proven ability to connect with Jewish youth, families, and people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Training and experience in education, especially informal and experiential
- Sophisticated awareness of poverty, structural racism, power and privilege and ability to discuss these issues with diverse groups in ways that empower and open people to learning.
- Understanding of and strong commitment to volunteerism and service best practices
- Ability to apply lessons learned in real time, and to course-correct accordingly.
- Deep familiarity with Central Manhattan neighborhoods

This is a part-time position for 20-25 hours / week at $30 per hour. The position starts as early as April 17, 2023, and ends on August 11, 2023.
