Program Manager, Manhattan

Repair the World operates direct programs in 13 communities across the country, including a full-time Fellowship, part-time Service Corps, and episodic service and learning opportunities to engage the broader community. Repair the World Brooklyn supports grassroots local organizations working toward housing, food, education, and racial justice. Harlem Repair was founded in 2016 and launched our Service Corps in 2020. 

Position Overview

Repair is looking for a dynamic Program Manager to lead our programming in the borough of Manhattan, primarily in Harlem. The position includes overseeing stipended Corps Members during their 12 week service placements; building partnerships with local Jewish, social justice, and service organizations; and planning regular service opportunities. Corps Members volunteer primarily in-person with local service partners working to combat the lasting economic and social effects of the pandemic in Harlem’s community; the Program Manager is expected to serve alongside their Corps Members regularly in order to maintain partnerships with their site placements. The Manhattan Program Manager holds primary responsibility for maintaining and deepening all relationships in Manhattan, especially but not limited to JCC Harlem, Based in Harlem, and our growing network of service providers. 

This full time exempt position will report to the New York Program Director and will work collaboratively and closely with local partners. 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Maintain ongoing relationships and deepen partnerships with Jewish and service partners across Harlem and beyond, into neighboring communities in Manhattan.
  • Recruit and oversee day to day operations of 2-3 cohorts of up to 24 Corps Members per year (Fall, Spring, and Summer) with the goal of Corps Members becoming integrated service partners and reaching their volunteer goals. 
  • Identify, build, and sustain existing and new relationships with local Jewish organizations, and civic/nonprofit communities for Corps Member placements, episodic service, and national campaigns, in collaboration with Fellows and other staff members.
  • In collaboration with the NY program team; ultimately lead 2-5 service projects per month with an eye toward deepening and widening community engagement across Manhattan.
  • In partnership with Repair’s national team, coordinate and facilitate weekly learning for Corps Members around issues of systemic injustice, Jewish values, volunteer mobilization, and management. 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with a group of peers nationally, streamlining the service corps program model, sharing skills and resources, and actively participating in strategic planning, fundraising, data management, and other needs that arise.

  • 3+ years of volunteer management or team leadership experience; demonstrated success with building relationships and coaching young adults and people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Deep understanding and involvement with Jewish, service and/or social justice communities in Manhattan, especially Harlem.
  • Clear understanding of how to create long-term professional relationships; skilled in networking and building up relationships with the intent of creating a pipeline of Jewish young adults, excited to serve in our programs.
  • Strong self-management & organization skills.
  • Sophisticated awareness of poverty, structural racism, power and privilege, and ability to facilitate conversations around these issues with diverse groups in ways that empower and open people to learning.
  • Experience with service event management and/or leading Jewish service-learning conversations.

Compensation at Repair the World is determined based on the salary band for the role and location. The starting salary for this role in Manhattan is $71,000-$76,000 with 3 years experience; if you have more experience than that, let’s talk. Benefits package includes paid time off for service in addition to vacation and holidays, employer pays 100% for employee medical/dental/vision coverage and 50% for dependents, retirement matching, and professional development funds. In addition, employees that have been with Repair for at least a year are eligible for 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
