Service brings us together to tackle society’s greatest challenges, build stronger communities, and be a force that transforms the world. Jewish tradition reminds us that a person is commanded to work towards justice, tzedek, by working to build a just, complete world. We serve alongside our communities in pursuit of a just society while seeking to create meaningful and lasting change. Join us.

We’re thrilled to partner with Miracle Messages to provide a fully virtual opportunity that enables you to make a huge impact in the life of someone experiencing homelessness. Miracle Messages has a ‘phone buddy’ program that matches volunteers with individuals isolated by homelessness for weekly phone calls and text messages to provide companionship and social support. After a brief info session and training (offered every Wednesday), you will be set up with a separate and secure phone number that will allow you to keep in touch with your buddy throughout the week. More than 66,000 people are experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County. Our Community LA has developed a free mobile and web app that empowers people experiencing resource insecurity to find and connect to over 2,200 free programs providing food, shelter, healthcare, and more. This comprehensive database is a lot of work to maintain! Join Repair the World and OCLA for a conversation on resource insecurity & housing justice grounded in Jewish learning and use your internet searching talents to ensure the app has the most up to date information available. No one should be hungry, unhoused, or in need of important supportive services simply because they do not know how to find help. Sign up to help make this vision a reality. Training will be provided.

Join us on June 15th at 6:30 pm to celebrate Juneteenth early with a special screening of The Sun Rises in the East, a new documentary by local filmmakers Tayo Giwa & Cynthia Gordy Giwa! Through interviews and archival footage, the film tells the story of The East, a pan-African collective active in the 1970s in Bed-Stuy that created more than a dozen local and self-sufficient businesses and institutions, from schools and cultural institutions to a magazine and book store. We'll follow the hour-long screening with a group discussion and opportunity for reflection and learning about local Brooklyn history. Light refreshments will be provided!
