Miracle Messages has a ‘phone buddy’ program that matches volunteers with individuals isolated by homelessness for weekly phone calls and text messages to provide companionship and social support. After a brief info session and training (offered every Wednesday), you will be set up with a separate and secure phone number that will allow you to keep in touch with your buddy throughout the week. Use your creativity to spread joy, create belonging, and support children in low-income or foster families. This ongoing opportunity allows you to give back from anywhere and is a great introduction to service for kids. Birthday cards should not have any names on them (no “to” or “from” [name]). The cards should read “happy birthday” on the outside and a positive message such as “have a great day” on the inside. It’s best to stick to these positive greetings. Gender neutral cards are encouraged. Be creative and use color generously! Flashcards can include the alphabet, numbers, shapes, colors, sight words, pictures, dominoes/dots, and more. Dual-language (Spanish and English) cards are a plus!

The evening will include Passover-themed activities, plenty of wine (and grape juice), and an interactive Seder led by Rabbi Rachel Greengrass. Join us for a Thursday open volunteer night at Sheridan Ave Orchard & Garden where we kick off an interactive sustainable art project with Barb Grossman from Scrapwerx. “What colors fill your heart?” uses reclaimed garden netting and fabric scraps that were intended for a landfill. It’s a free activity and as easy as tying a knot! Barb will join us in the garden to provide step-by-step instructions to guide us through the project. The project will hang in the garden all season long! All ages are welcome to participate - see you there! Tools and garden gloves will be provided. Please dress in layers. A variety of seasonal garden tasks will be available for volunteers to support, too.
