We’ll be making toiletry kits for the women’s shelter at Dough on Vanderbilt in Prospect Heights in honor of domestic violence month this October and will be partnering with NYCFilipinos since it is Filipino American History Month. Come and make a toiletry kit and enjoy a sweet treat!

This event will bring together 250 young professionals for an evening centered around gratitude, community building and service learning. In addition to providing attendees with drink tickets and a kosher dinner, participants will also learn from Aleph Institute about their work with Jewish U.S. Armed Forces personnel and the work they do around the world to ensure Jewish identity is maintained throughout active duty. Following hearing from Aleph Institute, participants will have an opportunity to write Thanksgiving inspired cards to be distributed across bases across the world while listening to live music.

Our upcoming event on November 19th, “Knead to Know You” will bring together 100 young professionals for an evening centered around connection, creativity, Jewish tradition, and relationships from Rodney’s Comedy Club on the UES. The evening will begin with time to meet and mingle before participants come together for a relationship-inspired challah-making experience led by ChallahQueen Tracy. Using challah as a framework, participants will explore themes of intention versus perfection, what we value in relationships, and what we hope to build with another person. We will spend time discussing the intentionality of Shabbat before pausing to incorporate service learning through writing Shabbat cards to be delivered by DOROT to older community members

Join Repair the World and DOROT to deliver Thanksgiving meals to older adults in the community. Volunteers pick up meals and deliver them to older adults’ homes. Depending on the recipient, volunteers either stay for a short at-home visit or follow up with a friendly phone call. This is a great opportunity to make an older adult's day at the start of the holiday season, looking forward to seeing you there!

The day before Thanksgiving, Broadway Community is holding a big holiday food distribution, and we’re joining them to help. Volunteers will help neighbors shop the pantry, walking with them through the aisles as they pick out what they need for their holiday table. You’ll also help keep storage organized and shelves restocked so the distribution keeps moving all afternoon. You don’t need any experience, and any one is welcome. Come by yourself or bring friends. Spending part of Thanksgiving week helping your neighbors is a good way to start the holiday.

Service in the City is a Mem Global Jewish Learning Retreat held in partnership with Tivnu and powered by Repair the World. Participants volunteer with New York City organizations that address food insecurity and access, and learn with them about the impacts of hostile infrastructure on the city today. The weekend also explores the history of Jewish life in New York, how Jewish immigrants brought their identities to the city, and how Judaism inspires generosity year-round. The retreat begins as Shabbat and the first night of Chanukkah start. Lodging is in a hostel. The retreat is not Shabbat-observant, and meals are vegetarian but not kosher-certified.
