Rooted in Sukkot’s themes of harvest, shelter, and shared responsibility, Harvesting Hope, led by JUF's Jewish Community Relations Council and the Chicago Sukkah Design Festival, will bring faith communities together to explore how urban agriculture can advance food security and bridge-building across Chicago. The program will spotlight organizations and houses of worship using gardens as tools for community care, beginning with a brief panel discussion and followed by a hands-on garden clean-up and tree planting at Stone Temple Baptist Church. Together, these elements will give attendees both a deeper understanding of the values behind the work and a tangible way to participate in local efforts that nourish bodies, strengthen relationships, and cultivate hope.

This program will bring community members together to clean and maintain a local borehole and it's surrounding area. The activity will help to keep the water source clean, safe and accessible while promoting environmental conservation, community responsibility and teamwork. Participants will learn about the Jewish responsibility to care to care for others and protect the environment, then put those values into practice by cleaning and caring for the community borehole. This will help participants understand that Jewish service is not about learning, but also about taking action to make our community better.

Rosh Chodesh (“Head of the Month”) marks the beginning of each month in the Jewish calendar and celebrates the return of light after the new moon. Observed by women since ancient times, Repair the World’s women’s circle will be a monthly opportunity for Jewish women and queer folks to build community with one another, serve and empower women in all sectors of Houston society, and build towards a more just world together. Get to know residents at Angela House, a housing facility and 18-month holistic program serving recently incarcerated women on their reintegration journeys. We will learn about the practice of Rosh Chodesh, build connections with the women at Angela House, and make art together.

Together, let’s honor Holocaust survivors. L’Dough V’Dough invites you to braid and bake challah, actively fulfilling the commandment of L’Dor V’Dor (from generation to generation). While kneading the dough, you will reflect on the importance of passing stories from one generation to the next. As your challah bakes, you will be joined by a survivor, child of survivors, or grandchild of survivors who will share their own or their family’s story of survival and perseverance.

Join Repair the World Orange County and Temple Beth El of South Orange County for a morning of hands-on service as part of TBESOC's Fall Mitzvah Day. Together we'll put our values into action through four meaningful opportunities: an American Red Cross Blood Drive, garden restoration in the Temple's Memory Garden, sandwich making for neighbors experiencing food insecurity through Sandwiches from the Heart, and off-site volunteering at Mercy Warehouse in Laguna Niguel where volunteers will sort clothing, prepare food bags, and support families in need. Come ready to serve, connect, and make a difference, one mitzvah at a time.
