This program will be an auxiliary component to a larger sukkot event. The main event is a sukkot happy hour hosted by Nextgen Detroit and the Downtown Synagogue at the Samantha Woll Center for Jewish Detroit. The service component will involve writing cards to Meals on Wheels recipients with messages of companionship, gratitude, and holiday wishes. We also hope to use a polaroid camera to send a photo of each card writer to the recipient.

Celebrate Sukkot making Sandwiches in the Sukkah with guest Jewish educator Rabbi Daniel Levine! The Sandwich Society brings good Jewish community together on the first Thursday of every month for a kosher-style dinner, good conversation, and hands-on service. We spend the evening making sandwiches, which Sandwiches From the Heart delivers to local shelters and food banks around Orange County.

Join this ambassador-led program for an afternoon of hands-on beach cleanup in partnership with One Sea Star. One Sea Star is a local nonprofit that educates communities about plastic and trash pollution. We'll start with a bit of learning, then spend time cleaning the beach together. We'll close with a group reflection over snacks!

With the help of a group of student volunteers, I plan to host a community meal for our unhoused neighbors. I am partnered with a local community member who works closely with unhoused individuals through his church and a nearby shelter, and he'll help connect people to the meal. We recover surplus food prepared throughout the week by our house's professional chef, food that would otherwise go to waste, and plan to serve it to 40 to 60 guests. Volunteers handle setup, serving with gloves and hair coverings, and cleanup, and we play music to create a welcoming space where people can share a meal and connect.

We are planting the little libraries in the community!
